About the Wilbur Cross Library Media Center

MISSION STATEMENT: Wilbur Cross High School is a richly diverse community committed to the pursuit of academic excellence and social responsibility. With the help of family and the community, we strive to provide a safe environment that fosters respect for self and others. Welcome to the Library Media Center: The library media center is open to all students for quiet reading, study, research and computer use throughout the school day. The hours are 7:40 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. Students are welcome to use the Library Media Center during class time with a pass.

Using the Library Media Center:
+ Show your pass to the teacher at the entry desk.
+ Sign in with your name, sending teacher's name and assignment. Students accompanied by a teacher do not    need to sign in.

+ Be considerate of others who are working and studying.
+ Work and speak quietly.

+ No cell phones, headphones or other electronics.
+ No food, drinks, hats. coats, playing cards, or inappropriate language.

The Collection: There are over 17,000 books with special collections including graphic novels, Spanish language materials, and the school district’s largest Young Adult collection of fiction and non-fiction books. You will also find the 1998-2008 Book Bowl books with multiple copies of high interest titles for literature circles, book groups, etc. For teacher use, there is a teacher workroom with computers and professional books.

Circulation of Library Materials: Books may be checked out for three weeks and may be renewed. Overdue notices are distributed regularly through homerooms. By Board of Education policy all materials must be returned or paid for. No fines are charged.
Library Media Center Computers: Computers on the LMC floor are available for individual student and class research, word processing, creating PowerPoints, etc. There are two computers for accessing the Wilbur Cross online public access catalog (OPAC). Additional computers for class use can be found in the library media center's lab.
Computer Guidelines: Computers are available for academic purposes. Our webpage, Cross Connections, supports learning by providing links to the online catalog, databases, reading lists, recommended sites, class project assignments, and a research guide.The priority for computer use is classes first, then individuals.

The Internet should be used responsibly according to the district’s and school's Acceptable Use Policy. Print only academic-related documents. Any improper use of any of the computers may result in loss of computer privileges.
