Freshman Academy Collaborative Team
This Small Learning Community will provide a transitional component for students that will assist students in acclimating into their first year of high school. Teachers will provide a conducive and personal learning environment while students are building their academic skills for success. As students progress through their freshman year in high school they will be exposed to the other three Small Learning Communities; C.A.B. (Communications, Art, and Business), H.E.L.P. (Humanities, Education, Law, and Public Service), and S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), that will be chosen at the end of their freshman year. At this time students will focus on their areas of academic and career interests.
The concept of Small Learning Community Model represents a highly researched and well established model of student learning. This model creates smaller schools within schools to improve student and all stakeholders' performance through ongoing collaboration and cooperation. The SLC Model of learning will build and sustain positive relationships among students and staff. This will establish a conducive learning environment where every staff member knows the needs, interests, and aspirations of each child. The staff will be able to provide the academic, social, emotional and other supports needed for each student to succeed as a young adult and provide research-based instruction to monitor student progress
