Betsy Ross Curriculum Units

The Universal Planning Tool, developed by Dr. K. Michael Hibbard, Region 15, CT. is used at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School to develop Collaborative (Thematic) teaching units. Based upon the mission of the Information Literacy Curriculum which ensures that all students in the New Haven Public Schools are effective users and producers of ideas and information, teachers meet with the Library Media Specialist in formulating Collaborative Units based upon their curriculum themes. Collaboration is the key to the successful implementation of the curriculum. Through the collaboration between teachers, library media specialist, technology facilitator and other instructional specialists students will learn information problem-solving strategies for use throughout life. Integrating current and future technologies with information problem-solving techniques, good teaching strategies using resource-based teaching and learning and motivational reading incentive programs, students will learn skills and processes that will guarantee their becoming effective users and producers of ideas and information.
