Dear Barnard Parents and Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my excitement and enthusiasm for the 2014-2015 school year. My appointment as principal at Barnard brings me back to my “home” and the work that I was privileged to be a part of in my role as an assistant principal here.
For those who don’t know me or are unfamiliar with my work here at Barnard, I’d like to share a few of my accomplishments during my tenure as assistant principal. I established a Parent Engagement committee, which provided ongoing workshops for parents around a variety of topics, I instituted family nights during which teachers and parents could celebrate student successes, I implemented a Portfolio review process, so that teachers would have evidence of student growth that could be shared with parents during report card conferences. I have very high standards for instruction, and spent a majority of my time in the classrooms, speaking with children, and observing student learning.
Additionally, I established an ongoing series of “Binterest” collages that exemplified student learning, which I shared with teachers throughout the year. I plan to carry this tradition into my tenure as principal, and showcase the collages within the building.
I look forward to working closely with you in the coming year with clarity, communication, collaboration and cooperation, we will continue the journey to make Barnard a school of distinction.
Mrs. Yolanda J. Generette
